POSITION OVERVIEW:
As part of the Zilker Labs team at Intersil, we are looking for a summer intern to work in the applications engineering team on the Digital DC-DC Power devices. Key projects:

•Characterization and bench evaluation of Digital DC-DC power supplies
•Design and debug of reference designs
•Development of collateral material including application notes and training


The preferred candidate is a BSEE entering his/her senior year or a MSEE student with a concentration in Power Electronics, with at least a 3.5 / 4 GPA. Previous course work should also include Analog and Digital Circuits (with associated labs), systems and circuits classes. Excellent lab skills are critical to this position.

Position Background:
Intersil D2Audio product line, located in Austin Texas, develops and markets digital audio sound processors and amplifiers for consumer electronic applications including TV sound bars, home theater systems, table top and media player dock audio systems, mini-component systems, A/V receivers, prosumer multi-room distributed audio systems, and automotive infotainment systems. Building on audio technology and semiconductor products developed over the past 10 years, the product line is driving an aggressive growth strategy and gaining market traction with major audio OEMs world-wide.

Job Description:
The Audio Systems &amp; Technology leader is a key member of the Intersil D2Audio management team reporting directly to the Product Line Director. With three direct reports each respectively managing audio signal processing and hardware systems engineering, software engineering, and applications engineering, this position helps formulate product line business strategy, define audio technology and product roadmaps, and evangelize D2Audio audio technology to customers, industry press and market analyst. Direct responsibilities include:

1) driving the D2Audio advanced audio systems technology development, including audio signal processing and hardware implementation,
2) mapping market and customer audio product requirements into competitive system designs and architectures,
3) defining system driven requirements for new silicon devices,
4) executing application specific evaluation and production ready system designs,
5) developing audio signal processing algorithms and firmware,
6) developing Audio Canvas III custom audio signal path design tool,
7) supporting customers adoption of D2Audio products in their applications,
8) collaborating with technology and reference design partners to enhance digital audio ecosystem
9) supporting marketing in customer design-in process, and
10) supporting marketing with new product business case analysis.

Candidate Requirements:
•BSEE degree minimum; MSEE/PHD preferred with emphasis on signal processing and system engineering or equivalent technical degree
•Over 15 years audio and/or semiconductor industry experience with increasing levels of technical and management responsibility
•Digital audio processing, Class-D amplifiers, &amp; system design knowledge &amp; experience
•Knowledge of audio semiconductors &amp; their application in consumer electronics
•Understanding of digital audio fundamentals
•Strategic perspectives for envisioning audio technology trends and mapping audio solution roadmaps
•Pragmatic project planning/management skills for driving engineering execution

Intersil is seeking an experienced Digital architect to lead the development of complex system-on-a-chip (SOC) mixed-signal ICs for power management applications. Requires technical leadership of all phases of chip development, including IC specification, architecture, RTL design, algorithm and firmware development, synthesis, and verification. Responsibilities will also include detailed documentation, test vector development, lab test and evaluation, customer support, and other activities as required for the achievement of high volume production.

Responsibilities

- Translate marketing requirements into detailed design specifications and architecture.
- Work with systems/software teams to understand architecture trade-offs, i.e., hardware/software partitions, memory requirements, necessity for dedicated logic/DSP.
- Behavioral modeling of analog and mixed signal circuits.
- Detailed design using Verilog coding and performing chip level verification.
- Assistance in the development of production test programs.
-Act as technical interface to applications throughout the sampling and production ramp.

Minimum Requirements

- 10 years of digital design experience on developing mixed-signal ICs.
- Strong motivation to contribute to all facets of chip design from conceptualization to release to production.
- Working knowledge of digital IC circuit design in an HDL synthesis environment.
- Working knowledge of digital circuit verification and testing techniques.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, positive attitude, and willingness to work on a team.
- Working knowledge of UNIX operating systems.
- Logic synthesis, physical implementation, and static timing.
-MS in Electrical Engineering or equivalent technical degree

Additional skills (one or more of these are highly desirable)

-Experience with embedded processor design and software development, especially for 8051 and ARM cores.
- Demonstrated competence in exploring digital and firmware system/architecture trade-offs such as memory size (ROM, RAM, FLASH, OTP, cache), clock speed, and the necessity for dedicated logic and DSP.
- Understanding of digital control systems.
- Low power design and implementation techniques.
- Experience with memory generators and MBIST.
- Verification of embedded processor systems utilizing software executing on the microprocessor and/or DSP.
- Competence in high-level languages (e.g. Matlab, C), scripting languages (e.g. Tcl, Perl, SKILL), and version control systems (e.g. SVN).
- Working knowledge of signal representations in time and frequency domains, digital signal processing (DSP) techniques (e.g. FIR/IIR filters, FFT),
- Experience with digital design at geometries ranging from 250-55 nm.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Based in Austin, Texas, the D2Audio / Intersil Sound product group makes the world’s only Intelligent Digital Amplifier using on-chip DSP capability.

Projects:
1. Develop a Plug-in for Audio Canvas III Software that allows for MCU developers to develop and test their code and its interfacing to D2Audio devices.
2. Develop MCU code for Evaluation Kits that allow for the demonstration and show-casing of D2Audio products and validate the efforts made for the Plug-in.
3. Generate Application Notes and collateral based on the efforts made on the Plug-in and MCU development.
4. Validate and Test Evaluation Kits using Audio Precision Hardware and Develop scripts that run on the Audio Precision.

The preferred candidate is at least a junior level BSEE with minimum 3.0 GPA or higher. Previous course work should include electronics, acoustics, signal processing, computer systems, programming languages and associated science and mathematics classes. Familiarity with embedded systems, DSPs, audio algorithms, GUI development and OO languages such as Java, C# or C++ is preferred. This internship could potentially lead to an entry level Applications Engineering or Software Engineering position once the candidate graduates.
