Projects:
1. Validate simulation models for Power Management products for bode plot and efficiency
2. Provide assistance to applications engineer mentor in validating power management devices that are used in computers
3. Learn skills in soldering, PCB re-work, debugging circuits, and designing power management solutions
4. Write technical documents in support of product development
5. Lab work using the soldering station, oscilloscope, voltage supplies, current loads, etc.

The preferred candidate is Junior year or higher in Electrical Engineering Program with a minimum GPA of 3.2/4.0 and post-graduates working towards an MSEE with a concentration in Power Electronics. Previous course work should also include Analog and Digital Circuits (with associated labs), systems and circuits classes, plus associated science and mathematics classes. Class work and some practical experience modeling circuits (OrCad, Spice, SIMetrix/SIMPLIS) are desired. We would be most interested in a candidate with an expressed interest and vision in doing Product Applications work. This internship could potentially lead to an entry level Applications Engineering position once the candidate graduates.

Position Overview:
Intersil is seeking experienced mixed signal designers, to work on high performance power management products for the fast moving consumer market. The primary responsibilities of the position will be to design and develop Battery Chargers and CPU Regulators for the Notebook applications, both working with existing IP, and developing new and innovative designs. The ideal candidate should have good system level knowledge, and experience in integrated power solutions, and will be exposed to all levels of the product development, from architectural decisions and helping to define product requirements through to design and verification.

Responsibilities and Essential Functions:
• Ability to understand customer and market requirements, and work with other functions (applications, marketing, etc…) to help define new products/architectures.
• Determine design approaches and parameters, driving system level approaches to new product definition and development.
• Detailed transistor level design of analog and digital circuits for new and derivative power management systems.
• Takes responsibility for custom layout, including overseeing the work of layout designers.
• Work closely in small teams and also reporting on design results through design reviews, following up on action items generated.
• Develops innovative new designs with potential for patenting.
• Ability to help find and fix complex integrated circuit problems through laboratory measurements.
• Supports efficient test program development and product engineering to successfully bring new products from initial concept through release to production.
• Supports applications engineering during evaluation and also to meet customer needs.

Requirements:
• Thorough understanding of integrated circuit design.
• Good communication skills.
• Experience of full product cycle from design conception to silicon validation and market release.
• Experience with switched mode power topologies is highly desirable.
• Understanding of control systems.
• Knowledge of high voltage design and some digital experience desirable
• Must be able to work as part of a team and, at times, with low levels of supervision
• MSEE with 5+ years or BSEE with 7+ years of relevant industry experience with a strong background in analog/mixed signal design.

Position Overview:
This position requires a driven, energetic individual with experience in discrete or integrated Power FETs to help architect and characterize FETs for integration in or co-pack with switching regulators ICs used in Telecom/Datacom, Industrial, &amp; Computing systems. Focus is on 12Vin DC-DC applications with currents up to 40A.

Responsibilities:
- work with Process, Package, and Design engineers to develop best in class switching regulator power stages capable of &gt;1MHz operation at &gt;90% efficiencies.
- construct simulation models which include package, PCB, and device parasitics to facilitate making tradeoffs of Vgs, BVdss, Rgate, Rdson, Qg, etc.
- optimize switching and conduction losses and make appropriate selections to best meet specific system requirements.
- optimize Rdson through FET floor planning, package construction, PCB layout, and heat reduction.
- deliver robust solutions by developing inherently rugged FETs capable of withstanding appropriate avalanche and forward currents, or by driving the FETs in a manner that reduces the stresses.
- architect advanced switching techniques including load dependent gate drive shaping, multi-channel length FET arrays to minimize stress vs rspon, efficiency-based deadtime control, low noise switching, GaN gate drivers, etc.
- perform FET device characterization &amp; validation including efficiency, robustness, and thermal analysis.
- perform competitive benchmarking.
- foresee and react to power delivery trends, including high frequency switching and utilization of GaN technology.

Job Requirements:
- BSEE, MSEE, or PhD

The ideal candidate will have 5+ years experience in an applications, design, or device development role with either integrated FET ICs, power MOSFETs, and/or GaN FETs. The candidate should be knowledgeable in DC/DC conversion, modeling of FET and package parasitics, thermal analysis, tradeoffs in efficiency vs. cost, methods to minimize stress on FETs and/or design of avalanche capable FETs, reliability testing of FETs, and failure mechanisms in high current inductive switching. In addition, the successful applicant will have a strong understanding of IC and power device development procedures. The candidate should have good verbal and written communication skills.
